Configure xhost files?

I want to configure xhost so that whenever a client (telnet) want to connect, he will not have to run "xhost +" since this command run only in graphics windows.

I heard that we can edit a configuration file in order to avoid re-typing the "xhost +" command everytime but I don't know the filename

I'm using AIX 4.3.3.0, in a RS6000 (7025-F50) machine.

Re: Configure xhost files?

To enable a remote name by default, the name can be defined in the /etc/X?.hosts file, where ? is the display number to which you enable access.

Re: Configure xhost files?

Hi

I see no X?.host file in /etc, so if I want to enable a client name "test", I should create a file named something like "X2.host", with the contents "test" (or IP, is it possible?), then put that file into /etc?

Correct me if somethings wrong.

Thanks so much.

Re: Configure xhost files?

No, I think you misunderstood. To restrict X access to selected hosts follow these three steps:
  1. Create or edit the file "/etc/Xn.hosts" where 'n' is the display number of the server on the local host, normally 0, as in "/etc/X0.hosts".

To deny all X access to your system, the file /etc/X0.hosts will contain a single character, "-".

To grant access to hosts "host1.com" and "host2.com" and no other hosts the file /etc/X0.hosts will consist of:

    -
    +host1.com
    +host2.com
  2. Search through all files in the directory /usr/lib/X11/xdm for occurances of the command "xhost +" or "/usr/bin/X11/xhost +". Remove or comment out all such lines.
  3. Inform users that any xhost commands should be removed or commented out of user startup scripts, such as .cshrc, .login, .profile, etc.
