| Hi all! We plan to acquire a p520Q and carve it into two LPARs with 1 CPU, 2GB memory, and two 73GB mirrored disks each. I am well versed with eConfig but not with SPT. Can anyone recommend a minimum configuration with just the above details as the items required? Our target is to have as little cost as possible as this is only a test machine which we plan to scratch install every so often and will only be used for studying new software and features, for demos and test installations only. A list of feature codes will be much appreciated, while a .cfr file would be even better. Thanks! |

2 LPARS each with 2 disks means you'll need: 2 x SCSI Adapter, 4 x 72GB Disk, 4 Gb memory, 2 CPU and 1 x Ethernet Card ( you can use the onboad forthe other LPAR) The SPT will let you do this pretty quickly, worth learning as yoyu can also use the output of the SPT to define your LPARS when connect to an HMC or IVM!

Thanks Ross! I reckon I should spread the 4 disks between the two SCSI 4-packs, with two disks on each 4-pack (each 4-pack belonging to its own LPAR), and I can mirror between both disks on each 4-pack. When you said "2 x SCSI adapters", did you mean 2 more in addition to the two SCSI ports that are already on the standard controller with the server? How would you recommend I connect each SCSI port to the two SCSI 4-packs then? And where should my internal 4mm tape drive connect? Also, am I obliged to get the mirroring-capable 4-pack or am I okay with just two standard 4-packs? Sorry for asking too many questions. Thanks again, Ross! |

When I say 2 x SCSI adapters I mean that each LPAR needs its own SCSI adapter that can be allocated to the LPAR. The onboard adapter is a single adapter with two ports (like the Ethernet adapter), rather than 2 separate adapters. I don't kow the 520Q well enough to know exactly which config you need in this case. Its worthwhile - really - using the SPT to create your config as it takes care of all these sorts of activities. You don't need - or even want RAID as you can performa ll your mirroring at LVM level in the LPARS.
