Hello All, Since this website is a pSeries decicated one I would like to hear your opinion/suggestion for a new pSeries server I have to deploy. Right now I am using a power630 with AIX5.2 installed. This server hosts an Oracle 9.2 DB (35 users) which our ERP runs on. The existing computer is an old one and I am thinking of replacing it. I will appreciate your suggestion which pSeries server will serve our needs. I conclude for the following machines: IBM System p5 510 Express and IBM System p 520 Express. Also I am thinking of moving to a RedHat (RHEL5) solution for host OS. Thank You for Your time. Regards, thlol |

Have a look at the p560Q server which will offer you the chance to put more stuff on the server in the future, using VIO and all that sort of thing. Approach your Business Partner / reseller etc and they will be able to help you out. Why would you want to move to RHEL5 rather than AIX on a Power system? Although if you get a big enough box you can experiment with Red Hat inone partition whilst running the app on AIX.

Thank You for your suggestion. The machine you mentioned above really rocks! but is too expensive for my budget. I want the new pSeries server to simply hosts the Oracle DB and nothing else. There are 4 more servers in my environment that are performing other daily tasks. I find AIX "difficult" to administer than a Linux flavor. Thanks Again, thlol |
