Panel 0c33

We have had this machine for a rather long time now, and it's mostly been off. However, we've just decided to turn it on, and it seems to be stalling just after AIX boot with the panel displaying 0c33.

I found that 0c33 means "A TTY terminal attached to serial ports S1 or S2 was selected." but what does this mean, and how can I clear it/resolve this problem so that we can boot the machine up normally?

Re: Panel 0c33

Hi

you need to install a serial terminal or emulation to the serial port S1 to let the machine continues with his startup process.

Hope this helps

Re: Panel 0c33

Thanks for the quick response.

Is this the same as using Hyperterm in windows via a Null modem cable?

We never had to do this before, is there not a way to set this so it doesn't need a serial terminal? The server used to boot quite happily using a monitor, keyb and mouse.

Re: Panel 0c33

Hi

And it's supposed to use your monitor, keyb and mouse. You can also reset the flash memory of your server so some settings (including this one about default console) are erased.

Easier is to use the solution based on Hyperterminal with a null.cable modem connected to the serial port S1 of your server. Once connected and AIX installed you can use the smitty program to change the default console.

Hope this helps

Re: Panel 0c33

No, no luck I'm afraid..

I can't get a terminal connection on any of the ports on the back of the machine, using Hyperterm or TTYTerm. It's probably me that's doing something silly, but is there a way to set the box so that a TTY terminal on S! or S2 is NOT selected?

Would that not help us bypass this?

Re: Panel 0c33

Hi

does your server have a graphic adapter ?? if so, then connect any monitor, mouse and keyb. It's supposed AIX should detect both output devices and ask you to select the correct console device. You can also try by resetting the firmware of your HW but this is a specific procedure.

I think there's a way to program the Open Firmware to change the console device but i don't know how.

Please keep us informed.

Re: Panel 0c33

The monitor, keyb and Mouse are all plugged in, and I've tried the option to set it to use them as the terminal, but I still get the panel with 0c33 on it.

Re: Panel 0c33

Hyperterminal:
Bits per second: 9600 or 19200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: Hardware

Be sure to select the correct com-port aswell.

On newer machines 19200 8N1 works fine, older 9600.
