| Hi people, Have any of you come across problems resetting the firmware password successfully on the power side (BPC) of a p590. We have followed a standard repair / exchange for a BPC problem, and replaced it. All seemed to go to plan (We had side A up, and side B down) After the service processors equalised the power side fru code levels, the BPCs rebooted, and since then we have not been able to unlock either side of the BPCs -(side A also got locked after unsuccessful retries) - (so the p590 wont power up. ) status is firmware password locked 0803-0001-00000203 We have followed the hmc info path - resetting hmc access password via asmi; resetting the hmc connection; updating the managed system password; but we have not been successful. Thanks, Geoff |

I couldn't help but notice that there isn't a resolution posted for this so, if you can at least login to ASMI (or the service processor login) here's my solution. Login to the SP as admin. Once there, go to Login Profile and select Change Password. Enter "HMC" as the username. Yes it must be uppercase and no, you don't type the quotes. You will be prompted for the CURRENT user password. This is what you logged into the SP with. Next, your prompted to enter and confirm the new password. Enter the new HMC password here. If you followed these extremely complex instructions, you should now be able to go to the machine in the HMC console, enter the new HMC password that you gave and all will be groovy. If you don't have the ASM password, you will have to reset the SP. Therea are jumpers for this, or you can pull the battery and wait for at least 15 minutes. This will kill ALL of your service processor config so it will all have to be reconfigured. Enjoy! |

| Hi , Silly me, should have updated ! Thanks for reply - we'd been through all the usual help. Problem was with the BPC, not the FSP . The BPC has no reset switches or batteries to pull. We were advised that there is a process on IBM retain for resetting the BPC. This involves powering off, uncabling the BPC, switching to EPO and waiting for the bpc to boot with the default light on in top right corner. On the bpcs that this worked with (by no means all !) the firmware locked issue was resolved. This allowed the bpc/fsp state to get all 4 modules to 'connected' Now, I have a further block, in that the system still won't power on - giving an 11008735 code complaining of missing BPC/HMC IP addresses. This I haven't resolved yet. |
