After unplug the power cable from server(I know this should not be allowed), the P520 server failed to boot up with control panel LDE displaying c1001020. The control panel's decrement, increment, enter button does not function either. I can not either input or modify any information in LED. Tried to connect Null modem cable to PC with correct baud rate, there is no output. Tried same connection to different P520(same type) server, the connection is working with meaningful output(login, password, menu). Tried to use paper clip to push reset hole, LED will reset to c1001020 again. Called IBM, they said ibm CE will cost $4000 to come to our site. The problem does not seem to be software problem. Anyone has experience on this? |

| I tried to reset switch on service processor, it did not help either. When it powers on, it will quickly go to c1001020 in less than 5 seconds. The only other code on LED before that is c1001014. The power stays on, LED code will cycle every other few minutes and then stay on c1001020 again. I tried to use network cable to connect HMC port, ping HMC timeout. http connction to 192.168.2.147 shows "page not found error". Null modem cable connection to PC does not yield any output. Instead of calling IBM CE, is there anything else I can try to rescue? Thanks |

what was the f/w level on this machine before the power was cycled? i would look at: Power5 and search for that LED before continuing. if this is a known issue with the f/w level, IMHO, you should not pay for the CE to come out and load newer code. |

This is the firmware level on the machine before it went down: The current permanent system firmware image is SF225_096 The current temporary system firmware image is SF225_096 |

Thanks King, I found it. This is a known issue as the link says: SF230_150_120: Several problems were fixed that caused a failure to boot withs B1817201, C1001014 and/or C1001020. I should SF230_xxxSF240_xxxOrder ECA 815 - IBM SSR will perform upgrade |

IBM CE will not upgrade firmware for free if we no longer have hardware service contract with them(expired). Anyway, the real cause of the problem is service processor assmebly. It turned out that it was bad. I hope IBM will not charge $4000 to replace service processor module unit. I can order it and plug in by myself. |

Huenian, I found the problem was not due to firmware and ibm refused to help since our hardware service contract was expired after 3yrs. The problem is due to a bad service processor assembly. It is an independent unit that hosts your HMC. If it is bad, you will not be able to use ASMI or connect via HMC to access or update your firmware. After we went through painful process with IBM to order the replacement part(Service processor assembly), initially they refused to help or give us Parts order number(even we gave them S/N of part). Finally with new replacement Service processor assembly(Costs $1100), the machine is up and running. IBM tried to charge $4000 just to look at the problem A brand new P520 server costs $5000. |
