Unhappy my p615 cannot boot up

Dear all,

I've just take my 615 down for relocation. unfortunately, my server could not up. Everything look okay. There is nothing blinking in operator panel or in rear side. Only the rolling dot shown in operator panel. I've try to move to another power source but the problem still occur.

Any idea for the problem ?

Re: my p615 cannot boot up

Well if there is any output on the Operator Panel then we can be pretty sure that its not the power source.

Is there a console attached to the server? Was there one attached in its previous location? Is it sitting in the Service Menu awaiting your input?

If thats not it, it sounds to me like something has been worked loose during the relocation.

No, Ross. There is nothing in operator panel. The panel's display is up, but there is a dot running clockwise on it.

Every devices already attached in its previous position, as i label it.

Do i miss something ?

Re: my p615 cannot boot up

The dot running clockwise is enough to know that the power is OK.

Do you get any response on the console?

In this case you probably need to get the hardware engineer out. It really does sound like something has come loose inside the machine during the move.

Re: my p615 cannot boot up

When you boot the 615, do you get the SMS screen (stop the boot by pressing the 1 key before hardware check chimes sound.) From the SMS screen you can look at the error log. You can also attach a ascii terminal to the S1 serial port and take a look at the service pocessor. That will give you access to the error logs and may tell you what is wrong. Last but not least you can boot the install media into maintenance mode with mounts the file system and allows you to do files system maintenance. Hope this helps you out.

No, Jim. I don't get SMS screen yet. It really doesn't boot up. I could not see anything in the screen or in operator panel.

Re: my p615 cannot boot up

Hi

I saw something similar once in a p5 server. Not sure what the problem was but HW engineer ask for a new service processor card and problem was solved. My recommendation is to place a call to IBM HW and start by resetting the service processor.

Hope this helps

Re: my p615 cannot boot up

It sure is a service processor issue. I just had one the other day. I reseated the service processor and the dots went away as the SP reset itself and started correctly.
