I am a newbie to this site and to the p5 and this is my 2nd post. My goal to have a p5 550Q, which will have 4 LPARs , 2 for productions and 2 for development. All 4 LPARS will have access to the SAN (the SAN will be purchased later). The server will house IBM DB2 Version 8.2. While we are waiting to decide which SAN to buy, we want to have an internal storage of 2.4 TB so we can house the database right after the server is up and running. To achieve my goal, what are the server's components I should have? Thamks in advance. |

How important is performance in this setup. I certainly can't advise in this situation without knowing more about what you need. You can use the System Planning Tool to help you see what it is you need to get the relavant server. Its downloadable here: IBM Systems Support: System Planning Tool Be warned it only runs under windows.

2 LPARS will house the production database so the performance is critical. About the System Planning Tool, I have downloaded and run and expect the tool will fill in some of the blanks for me but not, so basically I need to know what I want before using the tool. Please advise. |

I'm pointing you to the tool - oe else you need to talk to someone who knows your application. Deendent on the expected load of your database you may need 2 CPUS or you may need 16. I simply don't want to give you false information, based on the limited info you've provided. Do you know how much CPU and Memory each LPAR will need? Thats the first step. Do you plan to have all LPARS use dedicated hardware, or are you going to use Virtual I/O for some or all I/O? How are you going to achieve data redundancy?
