Hi, I just tried to integrate a 505 into our HMC, which already monitors 46 720s. Connected to the HMC port via crossover cable, logged in to the ASM as admin, and went to (as per our local docs) assign eth0. Here's where I went wrong. Told it hostname node039, ip address 192.168.2.139 First, I wasn't meant to be using 39 at all, but 48. Second, it should have been .39 not .139 (actually .48) Anyway, noticed this, after "save settings", and thought I could just reconnect and fix this. However now, it isn't listening on .139 .39 or .147 How can I tell it to revert to factory settings and try again ? thanks, / Brett |

Great. Tried to add the second box (a 720), and gave this one .2.47 Once again, doesn't respond. Reconnecting crossover, I can ping it on that address, but not connect to the ASM. How can I reconfigure these, or reset them back to .2.147 for another go ? thanks |

The 2nd HMC port is 192.168.3.147. If you are monitoring so many systems would you not be better off using DHCP for the HMC network to avoid these tyes of issues? If the firmware is 240_xxx then you can switch over to DHCP without a reboot of the server.

Second HMC port is not responding on that IP address. There's no way I can justify changing HMC settings, possibly risking our current setup. I'd rather just be able to configure these two new machines. From memory, on the 720, there is a hardware reset switch inside the machine, but I can't find any documentation on this. |

There is something similar inside the 505 as well IIRC, however I don't use them much so don't know exactly where. Usually you can remove the FSP and then there is a reset jumper you can move on that board. This will reset all info on the FSP back to its default.

Kind of a stupid question, but how would I go about switching from a static IP to DHCP for HMC access on a p5 520? The box MUST remain operational at the same time. Do I just have to use a serial cable to connect to the SM and change the settings in there? The firmware level is 240_299. |

Ok if you are using a 240_xxx version of the firmware then you can definately do it online, without affecting any of the running LPARS. First of all activate the DHCP server on the HMC, making sure the HMC has an IP address in the relevant range. Then logon to the ASMI interface via the HMC, and change the IP address type from Static to Dynamic and it will then do an immediate DHCP request and off you go. Its handy if you do this in the computer room - so that in the off chance it doesn't work you can use the 2nd HMC port to reset the IP address.

Have you already done it and got back the possibility to change the HMC settings? A colleague of mine has done the same thing, so I could tell him, how to solve this problem. |
