Question Firmware upgrading

Hi All,

I am new to the AIX world and we have 2 P55A servers. Each has it's own HMC, DS4700 controller and a EXP810 expansion slot.

I was wondering if there was a write-up, an article or instructions on how to perform firmware upgrades and the order in which they are performed and maybe how often it is expected that we do the upgrade to firmware.

I know there are many firmware uprades that I would be getting involved with right down to the firmware for the disk drives we have.

From what I can remember, I have the Disk firmware, disk controller firmware, HMC firmware and the server's firmware.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Smile Re: Firmware upgrading

It also helps if you know IBM's feature code for the device. For example the Feature Code for a 2GB HBA would be 5716, it helps you move around a lot quicker to locate the firmware/microcode for the specific device. Each item you are considering an upgrade for has pre-requisities in it's respective readme file. Pay particular attention if you are upgrading the HMC license code as there are system firmware level requirements that you need to review and in the docs they should tell you what should be upgraded and in which sequence. Very important, if you are upgrading the HMC license level to get a backup of the critical console data in case you have a problem with the update/upgrade you can recover you hmc to the original level prior to the update/upgrade attempt.
