We are trying to use the second slot on the p505 and it would seem have to bend the top of the PCI card 90 degrees to get it to fit. Is this normal and supported? I can't imagine IBM creating a special card just for this purpose and there does seem to be a tiny tick taken out of the mounting plate at exactly this point. |

I just talked to a ce about this and he didn't know what I was talking about. He pointed me to an infocenter movie that through clever editing, glosses entirely over this issue: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...nstallcold.htm The top video deals with the port in question, the bottom video deals with the 'normal' port. The first part of the videos show removing the cards from each place. The second part of each video are the exact same footage, which only makes sense for the bottom video. Then the third video shows a small height card being placed back into the machine, but it is not the card in question. Frame for frame the second parts of the second video are the same, but clearly the process can not be repeated for both sides as it is possible to see that the slots are different. |

Yeah, IBM even have a part number for the pliers to bend up the tab. Because of the different PCI bus specifications and physical limitations of this slot there is a need to limit the available cards in this slot so they introduced this limitation. Order part number 21Q1157 or FRU 21Q1159 and they will send you a pair of pliers designed to adjust the back plate on the card to make it fit. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...xplacement.htm The slot will only support 1990, 1959 and 1957 adapters - with the tab bent with the special pliers. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . If ONLY it were the first of april - fools day for our non british readers ;0) |

Maybe IBM could have made it clearer that there are low profile version of these adapters. They could also clue in the CEs to this, one that I talked to and one that I showed this to had never heard of the low-profile cards and on the p505 pci adapter page, I see no reference to this and the videos are vague and misleading |

Ah, I finally see how to get to the page that tells me about the low profile cards from the normal page. I wish this had been on the original page or made reference to clearly on the cold replacement page. Oh well. |
