| Hello, We have 2 IBM eservers p5 series. Currently for one server when we did a hard reboot we found that the code on the display remained at AA00E1F3. But it prompted nothing on the screen. Please note we are using hyper terminal service via a serial port. This happened for a couple of tries. Then I placed a bootable CD (CD1 from installation CD pack) and again tried, this time it did prompted for admin password on screen. After this things are smooth. To check if the solution applied was correct I removed the CD and did a reboot again and this time also I faced no problems. Could you please help me to investigate and find root cause on what could have gone wrong during first couple of tries where we got a blank screen instead of the password prompt. Hello, According to the service info on IBM's Information Center site, the above reference code is a " Admin access password prompt". Here's the link to the web page: IBM Systems Information Center I'm not entirely sure why you got a blank screen the first time but then you got a prompt when you booted from the CD. I've seen strange things when the incorrect serial cable is used but if you got the prompt when you booted from CD, it would seem the cable you're using is okay. A while back, an IBM'er told me you have to use a "full modem cable" when you work with the pSeries systems. He said basically all the pins in the cable have to be connected. Just my 2 cents worth ![]() |

| To clarify on the boot device set : During all the tries the first boot device was set to the blv on hard disk and not the CD. Hence i was in two minds about my solution and did wanted to check what happens if the cd is removed and i reboot again. But then things were successful. Thanks for the suggestions thomasle ![]() |
