Hello all I am a new member here with little AIX experience but eager to learn. I have been searching IBM Redbooks for documents on how to create volume groups, logical volumes, filesystems. I have found mostly conceptual stuff no real how to. I am still trying to figure out what is the best PP size to use and how to calculate it for different size pv's. If any body has any information on this i would greatly appreciate it. I am mostly using smit now ![]() |

Hi Kaj, Back in the 90's when disk was really expensive, I'd use the smallest PP size to really "fine tune" the size of the logical volumes. Now that disk is cheaper, I tend to use the larger PP sizes. On the last machine I built myself, I used 128mb, and the machines that I'm administering now are also set up with 128mb PP. I'd like to hear from some of the folks that set up a couple of dozen systems a year and how they size things. Cheers! Dave |
