Hi I am Dennis and have been working in this industry far too long :-)
I started back in the days of DECSystem 10s running TOPS, after cutting my teeth on PDP-8s and 11s running RSTSe or RSX. From there I got better and ported UNIX to a PDP-11 from the AT&T source tapes. That was an adventure and a few long hours of my life. I ended up working for the Death Star company where I ported Wobblegong IP and some of the Berkley stacks to the 386 platforms, again after beating a 3B2 into submission. One day a good friend of mine playing with the Andrew Toolkit on a Sparc 1 told me to leave AT&T as SUN was the future in computing. I spent a number of years dealing with patch bundles larger than the original operating systems and decided I needed a more robust O/S. Don't get me wrong SUN continues to make a great Front End to an AIX machine. Anyway I got involved with the early releases of Aches (AIX) and now I am running over 100 LPARS on every P/5 series up to a a pair of clustered 595's. I am intimate with VIO and NIM but NIM still challenges me. Feel free to contact me.
When I am not working, you will find me on or under the water. I love racing sailboats (I have a 35' Santana). I dive mostly for commercial reasons for other boaters and volunteer with the Canadian Coast Guard Aux. Occasionally but it is getting less and less, I will be pounding the mountains with my skis. |
