I am new to LINUX and AIX, and have an IBM p series 610 Model 6E1 with AIX 5.1 on it. I would like to remove AIX and install LINUX. Any suggestions as to how I can best accomplish this? |

I just installed Nux on a lpar a few days ago... I used OpenSuSE 10.3 ppc version, it's working fine but I think if you have the money it's better to try with a SLES... I tried also to install csm client and dlpar tools but it's quite shitty... Today I've configured a nim server running on AIX 6.1, but for linux it's also quite shitty :'( documentation is very poor on this subject and I got an error which I can solve because no doc... I have a little doc explaining the concept of installing linux on VIO (single and dual) but it seems again a little bit light. So, for me at the moment as it's not very developped, it depends what do you need, If you plan to install some lpar's it could be ok, simply use the dvd and plan your config before installing (otherwise you will need to reboot anytime you want to change some spec of your partition), if you need to install a lot of partitions, maybe it's not the good choice. NB: Maybe it's quite easier with a SLES, but not tried yet... Here is the config I choosed for my tests: lpar: desired 2 cpu, 2G of mem. Network cards, attached SCSI disks. (not tested in boot on san) minimal graphical install (then if needed graphical environment and vnc, but it's not a good thing if it's a prod machine ;-) here it was just to play with the test server.) hope it will help you... |
