bying a 500$US license of linux, when you buy a >10k$ system is usually not a problem.... When you buy SLES/RHES, you buy support. Debian will work, or most other distros available for power. You can even use Linux from scratch (lfs), and build everything yourself.... just remember that if for some reasons you have a problem between linux/power, than IBM might say that the setup is unsupported, and drop the call |

I installed Debian without a hitch. Just remember to set the console (when using an lpar virtuale console) to the right port after install (boot with rescue mode and change it with nano) when using dhcp. (yes i couldnt connect as i didnt know the ip adres - learning is making mistakes - ) Bying support on linux is like calling a microsoft helpdesk, you know that you paid for something and you know that you should get it but in the end you find the answer on a crappy forum site on internet. If you want support, stick to AIX, as I didnt find a linux package yet i couldnt compile on aix (although some were pretty tricky). |
