I'm totally new to pSeries, please bear with me. What I'm trying to figure out is whether my new p505 server has already been activated for Virtualization so that I can run IVM from VIOS. I checked in the "CoD VET Information" and it states that "Activated Resources" is "0000". Does that mean, I need to contact my sales person to purchase some kind of Virtualiation license? |

Hi Easiest way is to call IBM and ask. Then you can start your system and install using the VIOS install CD that should have been provided by IBM. Please use the following redbook http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpapers/pdfs/redp4061.pdf Hope this helps

Hmmm, You can connect your pc with a crossover cable to the internal ethernet adapter named HMC1 in the back of your p505 server that should be configured with a fixed IP (192.168.2.147 or 192.168.3.147 for the HMC2 port). Once connectivity is achieved you can open a browser to: https://192.168.X.147 this way you can get into the ASMI subsystem. AFAIR there's an option let you know about virtualization options in the server. http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/infocent...by/browser.htm Hope this helps
