| Hello Everyone, Is there any way to create a TTY in an LPAR so that we can connect a modem for remote access? If assigning serial ports is impossible in a virtual environment, has anyone found a good way to attach a smodem to a device that can then communicate with the LPAR via TCP/IP? We have a p5 server running VIOS 1.5 managed by an HMC version 7. Thanks! John |

Depends on the type of server you are using. Generally the serial ports are disabled in an LPARed environment, but you can get an expansion card with serial ports in it to support modems in a irtualised environment. However, in the modern age of security would you not be better to have a VPN connection to you network and then be able to login to your machines as normal?

Ross, Thanks for the info. That's what I suspected might be the case. We actually use a VPN as our primary mode of communication with the p5 servers, the modem would be a backup method. Thanks again, John |
