Model: p570 AIX: 5.3 HMC: Version 5, Release 2.1 I currently have 3 LPARS: production, VIO, and test. I want to create a training LPAR. I need to install AIX from the DVD in the p570. The DVD drive is attached to the internal ide interface at slot T15. The production and test LPAR's had this slot defined in their last activated profiles, but it was not set as "required". Here's what I've done to free up this resource: On the test LPAR

From AIX v5.2, you'll never need to restart any LPAR because of DLPAR (Dynamic LPAR) operations (from HMC). So, the only tasks to do, starting from a normal situtation (i.e., production LPAR owning CD device), to release CD-ROM are: 1. Remove cd0, ide0 and pciX from production LPAR. 2. Remove de adapter for production LPAR, from HMC (DLPAR operation) 3. Define CD slot in test LPAR. 4. Start test LPAR. I suggest, for every partition profile, define CD slot as 'desired' so you can always add/move/remove this slot from/to any LPAR. Test this&good luck.
