ping external address for sea failover

Hi all
i'm in one environment with 2 vio with sea failover , i already set-up a control channel with virtual adapter , now i'm reflecting about the necessity of ping an external address for the sea failover . the dude start from where i have the ip address for the vio . belong one dedicated phisycal adapter .
any ideas?
