We have IBM p595 lpars connected to Shark disk thru McData switches. Some switches are located locally and some are remote... with Shark disk hanging off those remote switches (the lpars are connected to local switches). Its happened that a few times that the lpars have lost the san disk from the remote shark. The switches are dealt with using inband management. It now looks like the problem may be the ethernet connection being broken between the local switches and the remote switches. It seems that the McData server senses the remote switches (and therefore ports) are no longer available and disconnects those remote ports. When the remote switches (and ports) are available again ethernet wise, the McData server connects the switch ports again and the shark is once again available. Does this make sense? Thanks for any info. Eleanor |

if aix lose some pvs, the vg will be stopped, and some errors appear in the error report. When the local switch reconnect to remote switch, aix will not auto varyon vg and mount the filesystems. so, how your system's response? |

I know what happens with the lpars, what I don't know is if the ethernet connection 'breaks between switches' does that indeed cause the port disconnect on the switches. It does seem to be the case and was hoping to hear from someone who would say yes it can happen or no it can't happen. Thanks for your reply, Eleanor |
