Moving physical resources

Moving physical resources

I am wanting to move a DVD-rom drive from an LPAR running AIX to a VIO server.

Do I need to do anything to the machine that currently owns the dvdrom before I shut it down and modify its profile to not include the dvdrom? I plan to give the lpar access to the dvdrom through the vio server...

But my question boils down to ... do I need to do anything in AIX before I shutdown the lpar and remove the dvdrom from its profile and start it back up?


Any help would be very appreciated

No you don't.

You can delete the device in advance if you want - but its just as easy to clean it up after you have restarted.

Thank you for the response, I've never really removed hardware in general from AIX, what is the best way to do this after I reboot the machine without the dvdrom?

After you rebooyt the cd0 device will be marked as defined.

remove it using

rmdev -l cd0 -dR

and its gone.
