Migrate AIX 5.3 w/o VIO to VIO environment

Anybody know how we can migrate AIX 5.3 system from non VIO server to Client LPAR on VIO server.

I have p550Q with 4 hdd. First we install AIX 5.3 without VIO(APV) on one HDD - hdisk1.
When we receive APV (and VIO as well).
We Install VIO (1.4.1.2) to hdisk0.
When we create Client LPAR and attache hdisk1 (with AIX) as physical drive for LPAR. When we try loaded Clent LPAR - I see kernel loaded screen and nothing happens. No LED errors, no boot progress

Any Idea?

BR,
Yury

Re: Migrate AIX 5.3 w/o VIO to VIO environment

Hi

Let me understand. First install of AIX 5.3 on hdisk1, was it on a previously created LPAR on the p550q ??.

If so, then you have created one LPAR of VIOS type to install VIOS SW on hdisk0. Then seems to me you want to use one Virtual SCSI server adapter created in the profile of the VIOS server so your first LPAR uses it instead of the hdisk1.

If so, i would assign the Virtual SCSI server adapter as Virtual SCSI Client adapter to the first LPAR profile and shutdown/startup the LPAR, if everything is OK you will see two disk, one physical, hdisk1, and one Virtual, let's say, hdisk2. The you can use the alt_disk_install command in order to create a cloned image of the rootvg on hdisk2 and modify your current profile to boot from this hdisk2 device. You can also create a mirror using hdisk1 and hdisk2 and make the bootlist point to hdisk2 instead hdisk1. Once your server has booted you can unmirror hdisk1 disk and your server will be running on hdisk2.

Hope this helps

Re: Migrate AIX 5.3 w/o VIO to VIO environment

First I install AIX 5.3 on hdisk1.
When I buy APV and Install VIO server on hdisk0.
after reboot VIO server loaded in LPAR #1 and work OK.
When I create second LPAR#2 (for AIX). Attache hdisk1 as physical disk and new virtual disk. I try startup LPAR#2 - but nothing happens. I see only kernel startup screen and no boot.
I can't run clone image.

I can load AIX only in sigle-mode.
But I can't load in normal mode.

Any Idea?
