| Hi; We're working on setting up our VIO server to be a network installation source for SLES and need to be able to scp the ISO to the VIO server. Unfortunately, scp is not in the path of padmin, and we cannot use the oem option because the firewall rules only allow incoming scp. How can we enable incoming scp to the VIO server? |

Hi IBM creates the VIOS appliance in such a way you cannot use it for any other purpose than this. You can still create another userid with another shell that allows scp and do what you need. Hope this helps

Hi Good. Just keep in mind that if your process of software distribution for Linux stations/servers uses a lot of the network and I/O resources this will impact the performance of the VIOS and, therefore, the performance of any VIO client running on top of VIOS virtualized resources. VIOS uses a lot of CPU power for Shared Ethernet adapters devices, remember this is a simulation of what really happens in a physical ethernet network switch. The same way it uses a lot of CPU and I/O for accessing disk devices and a lot more when accessing LVM provided devices. Hope this helps

Hi - You are a brave person to use the vios server for something other than serving io. It would be far better to create another partition and use that. The VIO server should only be used for VIO - and as other posters have pointed out, IBM will NOT support the VIO Server should there be any other application running in there. Cheers, |
