Does anyone know how to dynamically remove the CD from a VIO server, so I can DLPAR it to another LPAR. I have a procedure for AIX LPAR to LPAR, which consists of finding the slot of the device and then using rmdev, but I get an error with lsslot on VIO. |

Thanks, Jmcphee, for your reply. That is a good idea, and I will probably try doing that later for the lpars making use of the vio servers. In this case, I was trying to setup a second vio server, and I needed the cd for the install of vio. The first vio instance had the drive and I wanted to release it. |

There is some bug in the vioserver software or HMC where it wont release the cd/dvd until you have rebooted. So what you do is: shutdown the first VIO. Shutdown the machine. Boot the machine Start VIO2 and you got the DVD back (dont start VIO1 till you got the VIO2 running) after that just use the mkvdev to 'route' your dvd to your lpar's |
