Hello - I am new to IBM world and am trying to understand exactly wwhat is meant by DLPAR. I know you can dynamically manually move resources between lpars but does memory and processors move between lpars dynamically (on their own) based on workload/based on lpar need? |

DLPAR allows you or a script to move resources. Partition Load Manager (PLM) along with Workload Manager (WLM) allow you to automate resource allocation based on some resource usage thresholds. If you are good at scripting you may be able to achieve the same result with scripting normal commands. Enterprise Workload Manager (EWLM) will continuously balance resources among the partitions to help your applications meet the defined performance objectives with respect to each application's priority. Have a read of this: Partition management with EWLM, Part 1: The basic rules |
