Can anyone confirm to me that you can boot or restore aix 5.2 on a dual VIO server system? We are testing a remote site restore from a 550 (vanilla withouth VIO) to a 550Q with VIO servers. As we boot the DVD we made from the 550 (mksysb) it starts and stops with led code 518 (cant mount /usr) Also the original DVD's we used to install the 550 get same error code. A original 5.3 cd works just fine. |

5.2 lacks the Virtualisation capabilities to work with Virtual I/O Servers. This will simply not work. If you allocate dedicated resources for the 5.2 LPAR in the 560Q it should work IF you hae loaded all the device drivers in the original 550 LPAR.

Thanks for the reply I dont have extra resources in the 550Q. All are taken for the vio servers... It was just an option to try but i got another machine (520) test server ... gonna lpar that one and use that for offsite site restores if needed. |

Same thing with using the 520 as your fall back server - make sure all the device drivers are loaded in the primary machine otherwise the restore will possibly not work.
