Hi sorry, you arenot 100% clear in your question Are you saying that you want to have a redundant configuration ? If so There is more than one way to do it. As simple way would be to assign the HMC's and ASMI ports static addresses then connect them all to the same switch. Connect the HMC to each 570. You have a semi redundant configuration. A greater level of redundancy would be provided if you connected both ASMI connections to a redundant switch configuration (4 connections), each connection will reside on a seperate VLAN/subnet (2 on each). Put HMC 1 on one subnet and HMC 2 on the other (both HMC acting as dhcp server) HTH Steve

No sorry, We took delivery of two new 570 servers (Pre-configured by third party) one for our main server room and one for the DR site. Of course the servers ended up in the wrong rooms with the Live being in the DR room...... There is only one partition on each server with a profiles called ****DR & ****Live. Can I take a mksysb & savevg on each server then rename the profile and Server details on the HMC and restore to the proper servers. Or do I have to trash what's on the HMC and just re-set-up the partition. Or can I backup the data on the Live HMC and restore on the DR HMC. |

Hey mrn, Sounds like a great opportunity to practice your DR procedures !! You can do just as you said - take a mksysb and savevg and restore. Your DR server should be a reflection of your Production server, so you shouldn't need to back that one up. Just backup the Production server and restore it to the correct location, then the old Production server reverts to a DR server. If they are different then sure backup the DR and restore as well. On the HMC for each site, you simply need to rename the LPAR. You can call it anything you like, it has no bearing on hostname, purpose or anything else. Just check that the hardware configuration is correct in the profile. You may have more resources allocated to a Production server than a DR server. You say that both servers were pre-configured but sent to the wrong site. If the pre-configured Production server has more resources (ie memory/cpu/IO) than the DR server, then you may end up having to physically move the servers to their correct location rather than move the environment. |
