Re: Running HMC in VMware

I managed to get the HMC installed, however apparently my OpenPower 710 is only specified for one LPAR.

It also seems that it is not CoD capable.

Can anyone explain to me how it all works? Do I have to pay for a licence to be able to run multiple LPARs?

Hi elesueur,
From my limited experience, I would advise that you try the following first.

If you are not the original owner of the OpenPower / not aware of its capabilities, you can check CoDs the machine was purchased with at the following URL:
http://www-912.ibm.com/pod/pod

If your machine did come with CoD, the activation code will be listed, keying it via ASMI should get APV (or PowerVM) activated.

Re: Running HMC in VMware

Hello,
Reading your guide (thank you)
I am trying to download this "HMC V7 R3.1.0 recovery image"

Can't find it on IBM's web site anymore? I can't find any recovery media download looks like they want you to order the media.

Do you know where I can get the recovery image?

Thank you

Re: Running HMC in VMware

version 3 is for p4 only and will require a ran serial adapter .. just something to consider before you go any further ..

Any chance of sharing how you made these? Is the initrd just from another working linux machine?

I tried V7 R3.3 which didn't work - I suspect the changes make this initrd unusable.
