I have a new P570 server connected to HMC version 5.2. I don't have access to HMC GUI, and both HMC and P570 are in remote place. I need to install this new P570 server with single parttion from NIM server through mksysb image. I have not received mac address of ethernet adapter in the new server. As this is required to add NIM client in NIM server. I am trying to collect by using lpar_netboot command in HMC. But this command is failing with following error. Following is the error when i ran above command. # Connecting to 65-515FD # Connected # Checking for power off. # Power off the node # Wait for power off. lpar_netboot: Timed out waiting for power off of 65-515FD Please advise how to collect the mac address through command line. and open terminal through mkvterm also failing with communication error. |

If you have a login on the Advanced system management interface, you can do a system (entire frame) restart from there. The mac addresses for the fsp ports are available there, but I'm not sure you get the mac addresses for the rest of the frame from that interface. Dave |

I've run into many problems using lpar_netboot on P570's, specifically ones that have a large amount of attached D20 drawers with lots of I/O that take a while to power up and power down. You might be better off just doing it the old fashioned way: lssyscfg -r sys -F name (to get managed system name) lssyscfg -r lpar -m "System Name" (to get the LPAR name and profile) chsysstate -o on -b sms -r lpar -m "System Name" -n "LPAR name" -f "Profile name" vtmenu to get the console, the system should be booted to SMS and you dont' have to fuss with lpar_netboot. |
