| We have a client that is having a problem with a 7315-CR1 HMC that had a harddisk failure, Unfortunately the client cannot locate the HMC Recovery CD and backup image. I did't know what Release the client used, so I recover the system by the HMC Recovery CD 3.2.6. the HMC is connected 3 p650. now the new HMC system can't found the p650, there is nothing. p650 is still running. I don`t kown why , because different Release??? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards ningning |

Hi Hmmm. I don't remember if HMC 3.2 has a problem with an expired Java certificate that avoids to connect to the p6x servers. I had a similar problem with a p690 and solved by upgrading to the latest HMC 3.2 code and then going to HMC 3.3. Of course you need the HMC 3.3 CD's you can ask your IBM support. Hope this helps.

The problem is possibly related to the IP address set up of the HMC network. Newer Power5 servers will automatically re-request DHCP addresses periodically, but Power4 ones do not (IIRC). You need to hunt down what the IP addresses on the p650s are right now and configure the HMC network addresses accordingly.

Hi Hmmm. Sorry but i think Power4 p650s use serial connections to connect to the 7351-CR1 HMC so no IP Address are needed. I worked with p690 servers and they were connected to the HMC using a 8-port serial adapter.

You are probably right. I haven't touched a P4 HMC in ages.......
