Smile Dual Mismatched HMC's

Hello, New to this forum and have a quick question for anyone who has attemted to set up dual HMC's on different harware and version levels. I recently migrated from an older HMC running at ver 6.1 and some patchs to new hardware on ver 7.3.2. I now want to add the old HMC as a secondary and keep it on the older version level.

I will be using seperate switches and different DHCP zones for the private network of both HMC's.

Has anyone done this? Are there any specifics I should look out for?

I know this may seem strange but I need to be able to show both versions of the HMC with the same multiple managed p5, p6, i5, and OpenPower systems to compare versions and show the newer features.

Thanks,
Jody

Re: Dual Mismatched HMC's

p and i on the same hmc is 'not supported' by IBM although I understand they seem to work OK.

Dual hmc at different levels is 'not supported' by IBM but I have a V6 and a V7 HMC managing p5 and open systems and they both seem to work fine - not sure if this is 'supported' though.

HTH.

Re: Dual Mismatched HMC's

Thanks for the info.

I have setup the dual HMC's ver 6 and ver 7 and then seem to be running fine and are supporting systems p, i and open power.

I do realize that this is not a IBM supported configuration, but I am not supporting any production applications or users.

What does the V6 HMC make of the p6 machine(s) ?
I thought you needed HMC V7 to support p6.

Re: Dual Mismatched HMC's

Duke, Sorry for any confusion in my posting, I was speaking oh HMC version 6 and HMC version 7, I only have p4, p5, i, and OpenPower machines running here. But they all play nicely with HMC6 and HMC7.
