Using OEM memory in 510, 550Q

We have some 510s and a 550Q on the way. No CE is needed to add memory to these and I swapped some around from my 510s myself. We have found some websites that will sell pSeries memory for significantly less than IBM (not a hard feat). Does anyone have some experience with this, I even got our CE to admit that he has some other customers doing it. I understand that I wouldn't be able to get IBM to replace someone elses memory, but at these prices I could have a stick or two in reserve and replace it myself if there is an issue. The only gotcha so far is that had to reset my virtualization license on the 510s after adding the memory (which is IBM memory from another box)

Re: Using OEM memory in 510, 550Q

We have had both good and bad results with some OEM memory. Some of the newer systems have had problems with OEM memory becasue IBM (un-beknown to every one) changed some of the timings of the memoy on the DIMMS. These have been know to have random failures when pushed to the wall. However we have a vendor that has supplied us with memory that we have extensivley tested and pushed to memory saturation for a long period of time and it has not failed. There is also a life time replacement gurrantee on that Memory. Good deal if you ask me. Send me a email and I should be able to get you some price quotes.
