Does anyone use Cygwin/x for remote access? I am trying to set up remote access to my HMC 7310CR3 and system p 505. I use an XP laptop Ihave Cygwin/x loaded on my laptop I can execute Cygwin/x from my desktop and I get a terminal session on my laptop, but the docs talk about the startx file in the X11R6/Bin folder but the only file there is run.exe..I am a bit confused. Any direction will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what remote access you're referring to, but I do use Cygwin/X on my windows box to provide a unixy environment to manage my systems. To start X I recommend using the "startxwin.bat" script. You can edit it to provide 3 button emulation or multiple monitor support, etc. But it works without any editting. If you don't have a "startxwin.bat" script, you haven't installed all of the necessary packages. Run cygwin's Setup.exe again, and when you get to the package selection screen, change "Default" to "Install" at the top of the tree. It'll take a while and install a lot more, but you'll have everything you need. Be aware that cygwin's X doesn't work 100%. Most notably, Tk doesn't work. This won't stop you from using any of the AIX tools, though. |
