Hi there Technically a mirrored disk is a RAID 1 implementation I take it you have purchased a RAID adapter. Which level of RAID do you wish to implement and which adapter have you purchased ? HTH Steve

Steve, I am interested in this thread...I would like to implement Raid 5. Have raid card. Currently no HMC is being used on a p520. Is there a way to check without rebooting and using f5? (Or is this not even the correct way to do this?) |

Hi There I think you should be able to find the information required for configuring RAID using the integrated scsi card here pSeries and AIX Information Center HTH Steve

| Hi I have a similar config for one LPAR on a p570 Server. I have been testing those new disks of 146Gb (4) connected to a PCI-X RAID adapter with RAID0, RADI10 and RAID5. I have to say that performance is not so good. And this is because those disks are 10K revolutions per second. I had best results with the same test using 73GB disks. About your specific question, depending on what type of RAID adapter your server has this one can control both SCSI disk backplanes, if so, then you can create one RAID 10 with the 73GB disks to install OS AIX and one RAID5 for your data. You can do this by running the following smitty fastpath smitty "rm_raid_menu" I'm assuming you're using a PCI-X RAID adapter, you can check it out by PCI-X SCSI Disk Array Manager->List PCI-X SCSI Disk Array Configuration Hope this helps |

Hello Everyone, We have a new pSeries 52A with pre-installed OS. I would like to implement a RAID 5. I'm setting it up using SMIT but I can't find any disk to add to the disk array. It says that no items are found of this type. We have 3 disk on the upper disk enclosure connected thru the media backplane. It seems that it is connected to the built-in ultra320 SCSI. We have a PCI-X DDR Dual Channel Ultra RAID Adapter. Upon checking the hardware, there are no scsi cables connected to the disk enclosure. Can we still implement RAID 5 or do we need to add RAID Enablement CARD or add another disk enclosure with SCSI connector? Thanks a lot. |

Hi You have to first create the Array disk candidates in order to add them to any given RAID you are creating. Let's assume you're using a PCI-X RAID adapter you can go to the smitty panel by issuing: smitty rm_raid_menu Then you can go to the "PCI-X SCSI Disk Array Manager" and format the disks as array candidates in order to be added to a newly created array. This process of formating destroys data and is a little slow. Hope this helps |
