Re: Raid 5 Conifuration

if the disk is attached local you should be able to set it all up using

the following

smitty disk_array
now you will have a choice of wich one you need to use depending on what you have

we use one hot spare
lsdev or lscfg will show the following devices existing sisioa0

Now this is an example prosedure for IBM PCI-X SCSI Disk Array

Prosedure
  • Logon to the nimsvr LPAR and type smit devices
  • Select DiskArray
  • Select the installed Disk Array Controller (e.g. IBM PCI-X SCSI Disk Array)
  • Select PCI-X SCSI Disk Array Manager
  • Select Create a PCI-X SCSI Disk Array and select the available controller e.g. sis0a0 PCI-X Dual Channel U320 SCSI RAID Adapter
  • Select RAID Level (e.g. RAID5)
  • Select Stripe Size (64KB Recommended)
  • Controller SIS10A0
  • RAID Level 5 522 RAID Format, 512 Normal Format
  • Stripe Size in KB 64
  • Selected disks pdisk01……pdisk05
  • This creates a single hdisk*
  • Create an array Candidate pdisk and format to 522 Bytes
  • We use one disk as a hot spare disk
  • Errpt will report any disk when it fails and will use your hot spare

Re: Raid 5 Conifuration

Thanks for replying..
This is will be configured with ASCII terminal (No NIM,LPAR,DLPAR etc.) What I was thinking to do is Since the system will have 5 five internal drives I want to create RAID 1 for the os using two drivers (rootvg) the other 3 drivers will be called datavg. What is the simplest approach to creating this sort of RAID configuration. I have only configure systems using AIX software RAID -1 .This is my first hardware RAID configuration.,

Re: Raid 5 Conifuration

we need to first see what disks you have on the system

If the system is already booted then use
lspv
lsdev -Cc disk

if the system is not booted boot it in to SMS
From here you can in stall from CD and also see the disks
what system do you have ?
