Hi, I'm trying to boot the AIX 5.3 distribution DVD on my P43-150 (7043-150). I get the error message: Welcome to AIX. boot image timestamp: 20:02 07/06 The current time and date: 21:56:51 03/09/2007 number of processors: 1 size of memory: 256MB boot device: /pci@80000000/scsi@10/sd@2,0:\ppc\chrp\bootfile.exe Error: This system is incompatible with the 64 bit kernel in this boot image. model: IBM,7043-150 processor: PowerPC,604e EXIT called ok 0 > I have the latest firmware installed, and the release notes say it's a supported system. What gives? Thanks, Doug |

Are you using the O/F command instead of SMS to boot from the DVD? Quote:

I can boot the 5.2 release off the CD-ROM and the DVD-ROM. If I copy the 5.3 release to a CDFS DVD disk, I get the same error message. It would apear that the 43P-150 is a 32 bit machine, and the bootfile/default kernel is 64 bit. 5.3 is supposed to run on a 32 bit machine, but I can't find any instructions for how to boot the media in 32 bit mode. Next, I will try an alternate disk install, going from 5.2 to 5.3. Doug |

Dear Doug I have read that for 5.3 you must have 64 bit machine. If your machine support 64 bit, You can check with this command. $ lsconf -k or prtconf -k this command will show the kernal bits secondly to upgrade your Operating System from older version to new one for example from 5.2 to 5.3 you must do ""Migration Installation"" best of luck Tauqir |

Seemed to be able to load it, but hangs on boot. Have given up, have purchases a 7044-170 (64 bit machine). Might try to use it to load a disk with 5.3, to see if it will run on the 7043-150 at all. |

The 150 should support 5.3 if the firmware is up to date: IBM - Microcode downloads - Description Download from here: IBM - Microcode downloads - Select firmware (7043-150) |
