Depends on the purpose you have in mind doesn't it? I mean I wouldn't want to write an entire application in a shell script, but the visibility of the code makes it very useful for house keeping tasks.

It's just a general poll to see what the AIX community favors most. I'm sure there's a lot of developers out there so yes depending on the application a different language might be considered... Depending on my situations, I use Shell, Perl, C++ & Java. Lately concentrating on Perl development. Basically a thread for members to view their opinion on the language they use....

Perl is my first choice for heavy lifting, but I've had a lot of problems with AIX 5.3 and CPAN, so I've done more shells lately. Dave |

I prefer PHP. It has all the power of perl, stronger database interaction and easily adaptable to web-based tools.
