Hello everybody, I would greatly appreciate if anyone could tell me where to find free performance analyzer tools for AIX5.3 as i need to have a report printed out for my manager each regular interval so that we can decide when we will need to upgrade or increase our storage and other considerable parameters. Thanks in advance. |

Most AIX people use nmon, by Nigel Griffiths. It can monitor online in real time the most important parameters - but is can also write information away to a file, and there are a number of spreadsheets that will take that data and make nice graphs that a manager will understand. Of note however is that whilst nmon is created and maintained by an IBMer it is not an official IBM tool and cannot be used to report performance problems to IBM. nmon performance: A free tool to analyze AIX and Linux performance

>> cannot be used to report performance problems to IBM. Thats not strictly true, when I worked in the "Unix support centre" I used to get customers sending in nmon data all the time and as I didnt mind I used to use it as a prelim before asking for perfpmr data .. so it really depends on who picks up the PMR .. most support bods would say "NOT SUPPORTED" tho ![]() Rgds Mark Taylor |

Thanks alot for your help, that was really a great performance tool. But unfortunately , there is option still missing for me which is:I want to have a graph report telling which user is consuming most of the resources and know which application he runs that eats that resources and thus i can then try to improve the performance of that application. Any idea how to do that ?! I would be very appreciatable for your help. Thanks in advance. |

You might also look at configuring Work Load Manager in passive mode. It can be configured to classify the processes on the basis of user, process name (+ dependents), etc.
