We are about to add 4gb of memory and will have to increase our paging space. It looks like I have enough free PPs but they are all on the inner edge. Will this be okay? If not how can I free up some in the middle? |

It is very few times I'd call my self a expert. But I cant see any specific reason why it would be bad to have it there. Except really insane cases. If not, I guess you could set a policy as any other LV where it should be found.

Effectivly, you use a lot a Paging Space. You have 20 Go of real memory. What applications do you use ? Do you use the option 'cio' or 'dio' with your FileSystem ? If yes, could you give me the value of 'maxclient%' |

If I ask you this questions, it's to see if you must add a new Paging space. Because the best is to use the real memory instead of paging space. To add a new paging space, smit, 'System Storage Management', 'Logical Volume manager', 'Paging Space', 'Add another paging space'. For the size, you must put the same like the others. To change the location 'inner, middle', you have to modify the logical volume smit , 'System Storage Management', 'Logical Volume manager', 'Logical Volume', 'Set Characteristic ...', 'Change of Logical Volume'. Si your paging space named hd6, to see the location of it, do lslv -l hd6 |

I was just going to add to the paging space with smit chps. Will I be able to change the location even though all the PP are used in the 'inner, middle'? When I do a lsps -a I get: Grits:root:/# lsps -a Page Space Physical Volume Volume Group Size %Used Active Auto Type paging01 hdisk3 rootvg 8320MB 99 yes yes lv paging00 hdisk0 rootvg 19200MB 76 yes yes lv paging00 hdisk2 rootvg 1024MB 76 yes yes lv When I do a lspv I get: Grits:root:/# lspv hdisk3 PHYSICAL VOLUME: hdisk3 VOLUME GROUP: rootvg PV IDENTIFIER: 00c42efddb586dff VG IDENTIFIER 00c42efd00004c0000000105ba468d37 PV STATE: active STALE PARTITIONS: 0 ALLOCATABLE: yes PP SIZE: 128 megabyte(s) LOGICAL VOLUMES: 8 TOTAL PPs: 546 (69888 megabytes) VG DESCRIPTORS: 1 FREE PPs: 41 (5248 megabytes) HOT SPARE: no USED PPs: 505 (64640 megabytes) MAX REQUEST: 256 kilobytes FREE DISTRIBUTION: 00..00..00..00..41 USED DISTRIBUTION: 110..109..109..109..68 Grits:root:/# lspv hdisk0 PHYSICAL VOLUME: hdisk0 VOLUME GROUP: rootvg PV IDENTIFIER: 00c42efde98cb4da VG IDENTIFIER 00c42efd00004c0000000105ba468d37 PV STATE: active STALE PARTITIONS: 0 ALLOCATABLE: yes PP SIZE: 128 megabyte(s) LOGICAL VOLUMES: 4 TOTAL PPs: 546 (69888 megabytes) VG DESCRIPTORS: 1 FREE PPs: 58 (7424 megabytes) HOT SPARE: no USED PPs: 488 (62464 megabytes) MAX REQUEST: 256 kilobytes FREE DISTRIBUTION: 00..00..00..00..58 USED DISTRIBUTION: 110..109..109..109..51 Grits:root:/# lspv hdisk2 PHYSICAL VOLUME: hdisk2 VOLUME GROUP: rootvg PV IDENTIFIER: 00ca8abde9e8c37e VG IDENTIFIER 00c42efd00004c0000000105ba468d37 PV STATE: active STALE PARTITIONS: 0 ALLOCATABLE: yes PP SIZE: 128 megabyte(s) LOGICAL VOLUMES: 7 TOTAL PPs: 546 (69888 megabytes) VG DESCRIPTORS: 1 FREE PPs: 151 (19328 megabytes) HOT SPARE: no USED PPs: 395 (50560 megabytes) MAX REQUEST: 256 kilobytes FREE DISTRIBUTION: 00..00..00..42..109 USED DISTRIBUTION: 110..109..109..67..00 |
