Paging Space

We are about to add 4gb of memory and will have to increase our paging space. It looks like I have enough free PPs but they are all on the inner edge. Will this be okay? If not how can I free up some in the middle?

Re: Paging Space

It is very few times I'd call my self a expert.

But I cant see any specific reason why it would be bad to have it there. Except really insane cases.

If not, I guess you could set a policy as any other LV where it should be found.

Re: Paging Space

Effectivly, you use a lot a Paging Space.
You have 20 Go of real memory.
What applications do you use ?

Do you use the option 'cio' or 'dio' with your FileSystem ?
If yes, could you give me the value of 'maxclient%'

Re: Paging Space

This particular server only has Oracle 10g running on it, I don't think we have cio or dio running but I could be wrong because I was not involved in the installation and setup of the machine.

Re: Paging Space

If I ask you this questions, it's to see if you must add a new Paging space.
Because the best is to use the real memory instead of paging space.

To add a new paging space, smit, 'System Storage Management', 'Logical Volume manager', 'Paging Space', 'Add another paging space'. For the size, you must put the same like the others.

To change the location 'inner, middle', you have to modify the logical volume
smit , 'System Storage Management', 'Logical Volume manager', 'Logical Volume', 'Set Characteristic ...', 'Change of Logical Volume'.

Si your paging space named hd6, to see the location of it, do
lslv -l hd6

Re: Paging Space

I was just going to add to the paging space with smit chps.
Will I be able to change the location even though all the PP are used in the 'inner, middle'? When I do a lsps -a I get:
Grits:root:/# lsps -a
Page Space Physical Volume Volume Group Size %Used Active Auto Type
paging01 hdisk3 rootvg 8320MB 99 yes yes lv
paging00 hdisk0 rootvg 19200MB 76 yes yes lv
