Hi all Does anyone know of a good tool for monitoring resource consumption on a p550q (running AIX 5.3) Have some fairly resource intensive oracle applications, and need to monitor resource consumption in post implemetation period. A commercial tool is a better option (i.e. not freeware), are any recommended by IBM. Do you know the cost. Regards

Comprehensive monitoring tools would include Tivoli Enterprise Console and Zabbix (an open source monitoring tool). nmon is pretty good for most issues, and is extremely tweakable. nmon was developed at IBM, although at this time it is not *officially* supported, and Tivoli Enterprise Console is widely used at IBM. I'll leave it to you to do a cost/benefit analysis of the tools -- I usually go for open source first though. If nothing else, they'll give you a taste of what you're going to be looking for and what's availible with zero cost for the software itself. |

nmon is awsome, but when you really want to drill down, you need something that can see what the database is up to. I addition to what mshulan has suggested, take a look at Tivoli Monitoring www.ibm.com/software/tivoli/products/monitor I tested this some time ago and was really impressed. You can monitor performance, hardware, software etc. with this one tool. We've also used NetCool (now owned by IBM) |
