Hello we are a new AIX / p5 user by way of an ERP system. I have used Linux (Red Hat) a fair bit, but was wondering if someone could tell me if there is a repository of offical and unofficial software one downloads and installs like up2date, yum or apt-get? |

Hi, AIX offers cummulative updates as TL (Technology Level) and SP (Service Pack). IBM also offers SUMA. I have never used it since none of my boxes actually have internet access. But it is supposed to automate the manual steps of downloading APARS. If you goto the IBM website and search for SUMA you will find information about it. |

Thank you for the replies! Aside from fixes, what is the mechanism to get new software to install? For example say I want to install Samba, how and where do I get the packages for it? It's just that I am familiar with the Linux world where one downloads it almost automatically with dependency checking from some repository, and was wondering if AIX works the same way. |

Samba comes from the Linux Toolbox CD. Check out the contents on this page: IBM AIX Toolbox Download Page - Alphabetical Listing You should have this CD at your ready reference. It also has the openssl socket software (pre-requisite for OpenSSH, which comes on the AIX Expansion CDs). |
