| My Situation: I am trying to install Fedora on an LPAR using my NIM server as the installation source. I have used the NIM server in the past to do AIX 5.3 installs but have had trouble finding documentation on how to install linux via NIM. I have read through NIM from A to Z in AIX 5L and followed the directions in chapter 4.7 "Network Installation Manager and Linux distributions." I go through all of the steps and then I export the directory housing the install files . vi /etc/exports added /export/fedora5/ppc -sec=sys,ro and then the instructions seem to just stop. Under the "PPC configuration" heading on page 298 it states "PPC configuration Because Fedora/ppc uses BOOTP for booting over the network, there are no configuration files to edit. When the system boots, a manual installation can to be performed just as when booting with a CD/DVD." So, how to I go about booting the client LPAR? Shouldn't I have to define the new resources in nim? If so, how do you define linux resources in nim? Very confused, if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. |

I think I can help with two points: Your export will not work with NIM because NIM only supports NFS V3 so it will fail reading the sec=sys, this is NFS V4 speak, so take it out of the /etc/exports. When you boot your LPAR, select boot to SMS and then select the network adapter as the boot device. As for configuring the resource on the master, sorry, it has been too long since I playted with NIM for me to remember. HTH. |
