| Hi, Let me brief the environment and proably can someone suggest how to proceed.... a. I have p505 machine with three LPAR partition running on it besides the actual system partition. b. First LPAR partition (LPAR A) acting as NIM server, installed with v5.3 c. Second LPAR partition (LPAR B) also installed with v5.3 but installation happened thro' NIM master server (LPAR A) d. I have created the Third LPAR (LPAR C) and assigned shared virtual DVD ROM drive to this partition. (This reassignment of virtual DVD ROM drive was managed thro' IVM interface on Virtual I/O server which is running on system partition). Once I boot the third LPAR into SMS mode, I am unable to see the virtual DVD ROM drive but I could see the virtual ethernet card which was shared among all LPAR partitions. Questions: 1. What would be probable cause for not showing the DVD ROM drive on third partition 2. Is there a way out to keep/build lpp_source, spot on my first LPAR (LPAR A) for aix v 4.3.3., so that I can use the same LPAR partition for all of my clients. i.e Single NIM master server for all versions of NIM clients. 3. If question number two is ruled out, then how to make the virtual DVD ROM drive visible on my third LPAR so that this partition can be made as an additional NIM server exclusively for v 4.3.3 or lower. Thanks. Thanks. |

You can simply create a 4.3.3 lpp_source from your original cd media on the NIM server. The NIM rules are that the NIM server must be at least the same level as the lpp_source (so downlevel lpp os OK). However remember that 4.3.3 is out of support so it is not guaranteed that this will continue to work in the future.
