I have copied all 8 AIX 5.3 CDs to our NIM servers but I get following error at the time of lpp_source initialization. nim -o define -t lpp_source -a server=master -a location=/nim/lpp_source/5300-09-03-0918-lpp lpp53TL9all Preparing to copy install images (this will take several minutes)... Now checking for missing install images... warning: 0042-267 c_mk_lpp_source: The defined lpp_source does not have the "simages" attribute because one or more of the following packages are missing: bos.wpars bos.aixpert.cmds bos.mls NIM Server is AIX 6.1 and for some reason nim server is looking for bos.wpars which is part of AIX 6.1 and not AIX 5.3 any idea that might help to find the reason ? can I download bos.wpars packages for AIX 5.3 ? is there any way to modify or restructure NIM server for package list lookup on lpp_source ? I was going to copy the missing file sets from AIX 6.1 CDs to AIX 5.3 lpp_source and re-initialize the lpp resource again, but that is not a good idea and I want to know why I get this error. Thanks |

Hi, for good NIM behavior, the lppsource needs to have specific AIX minimum packages that give the simages attribute: bos bos.64 bos.up bos.mp bos.net bos.diag bos.sysmgt bos.terminfo bos.terminfo.data devices.base devices.buc devices.common devices.graphics devices.mca devices.rs6ksmp.base devices.scsi devices.sio devices.sys devices.tty xlC.rte and the latest APARs of this packages If you put all AIX CDs, it is possible that you get failures because some .bffs are APARs with duplicates and some others don't have all pre-requisites. Define lppsource from AIX 5.3 source=/dev/cd0 and then add the others AIX packages you need to it. Finally do the lppmgr operation to eliminate unnecessary software images. Regards. Silvia. |
