I have never set up NIM and I am getting the following output when running the nimconfig command: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ # nimconfig -a pif_name=en0 -a netname=network1 -a cable_type1="N/A" 0042-001 nimconfig: processing error encountered on "master": 0042-180 m_chmaster: The ip address 127.0.0.1 does not belong to the network 10.10.101.64 which is represented by the nim object network1. /usr/sbin/rmitab: 0481-207 The ident field specified does not exist. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have tried running this under smit and I get an error stating that I need to specify the cable type and I don't know how to rectify that situation. So I tried the good ole' command line and get the error posted above. I assume that the /usr/sbin/rmitab is just a back out method trying to remove the nimesis daemon thats not even there yet. Why is NIM being cranky with the loopback and what can I do about it? Thanks in advance for your help

Yikes! When I try to network install AIX5.3 to my nim client via smit I get the following error. NIM master= EpicNIM NIM client = AIXBlade Error: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0042-001 nim: processing error encountered on "master": 0042-001 m_bos_inst: processing error encountered on "master": 0042-193 m_nnc_setup: AIXBlade.methnet.org has no entry for EpicNIM in .rhosts or cannot resolve host id ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Client /etc/hosts: 10.10.101.99 EpicNIM EpicNIM.methnet.org #NIM Server Client nslookup EpicNIM: Name: EpicNIM.methnet.org Address: 10.10.101.99 Client /.rhosts and /.rhosts.nim: 10.10.101.99 root EpicNIM root EpicNIM.methnet.org root Master lsnim -l AIXBlade: AIXBlade: class = machines type = standalone connect = nimsh (secure) comments = object defined using nimquery -d platform = chrp netboot_kernel = mp if1 = ent-Network1 AIXBlade 0 cable_type1 = N/A Cstate = ready for a NIM operation prev_state = BOS installation has been enabled Mstate = currently running bosinst_data = bosinst_data lpp_source = source53 spot = spot53 cpuid = 0001ACC9D000 control = master Cstate_result = failure Master nim -o lslpp AIXBlade: 0042-001 nim: processing error encountered on "master": 0042-006 m_lslpp: (From_Master) connect Error 0 0042-008 nimsh: Request denied - epicnim.methnet.org Now I had "nim -o lslpp AIXBlade" working before but was recieving the cannot connect error on installation, so I backed out everything and tried setting up the client again. The second time through the lslpp isn't working.
