| I want to add an HP Laserjet 4300tn network printer to my AIX 5.3 system. The printer is currently setup as a network printer on my 2003 SBS with IP address,etc.. I want to assign a printer # so that I can print from my AIX 5.3 box but I do not know much about programming UNIX. Any advice? Thanks in advance. Jason |

IIRC this printer should have something called JetDirect card which is the usual way of printing to it from AIX. All you need to do is define the IP address of the printer, either in DNS or /etc/hosts, then go to smitty to define a print queue. Use "smitty spooler" then select "Add a Print Queue", select hpJetDirect from the pop-up, then "Hewlitt-Packard" as the printer type, then select the device type. Depending on the filesets you installed with AIX there will be a long or short list of HP models to choose from. If you don't see exactly the one you have you could try an 8100. I've found that most HP laserjet printers will work OK if defined that way. HTH Jim Lane |
