I have a strange request. I have a LUN that has a single volume group (not rootvg) on it. What I'd like to do is move that LUN/VG from one LPAR to another. The LPAR that this LUN/VG was on is gone and irrecoverable. However, I'm anticipating that all of the data on this LUN I want to move is fine. I want to try to get to it from another server. Is this possible? I've already presented the LUN to the new server and it shows up as a new hdisk. I'm just not sure what the next step is for getting to the data. Thanks in advance for any advice. |

Thanks, but I tried that. Here's the error I get: # importvg -y sanvg hdisk1 0516-066 lqueryvg: Physical volume is not a volume group member. Check the physical volume name specified. 0516-066 lqueryvg: Physical volume is not a volume group member. Check the physical volume name specified. 0516-1140 importvg: Unable to read the volume group descriptor area on specified physical volume. |

That looks like either you have got the wrong LUN or there was more than 1 disk in the Volume group. The value of the -y flag isn't important unless the value is already known to the LPAR is question.

Thanks for the help. Found out from IBM that you can't import a VG from a LUN that was once assigned to a server physically connected to the SAN to a server that now sees the same LUN as a virtual device shared through the IO server. |
