Mounting USB Flash Drives

Is there anyway to mount a USB flash drive in AIX? I need to upgrade the firmware on a box that is not networked, and I don't want to waste a CD on just a single file.

Re: Mounting USB Flash Drives

Which version of AIX you are using?
To upgrade firmware you don't need to have fileset on USB or cd. You can simple keep it in system it and upgrade the firmware.

Re: Mounting USB Flash Drives

Hi

There's no way. Those device drivers only work for IBM USB Keyboards and mice. AIX does not have basic support for USB drivers. This is one of the failures of AIX comparing to Sun Solaris. They should work on this.

Re: Mounting USB Flash Drives

Hi

Yes. Suse has far ahead more support for USB devices than AIX. I hope AIX 6 brings more support for OEM devices.

Nice idea to have SUSE LPARs. They work very well even in SAP enviroments.

Wink Re: Mounting USB Flash Drives

Just for giggles I hooked a USB Flash drive to a 510 running AIX 5.3 Maintenance Level 5 and it recognized the drive when I ran the config manager. If I remember correctly I just imported the flashdive as a volume group and then moved the files across. It was about 6 months a go and my memory isn't what is used to be, (if it ever was.)
