Hello i am a newbie and I am having an issue with the mkdev command. I am trying to add a cdrom. The command I tried to use was mkdev -c cdrom-s ide -t dvdram -p ide -d -w 0 I get an errors that says the parent of the device does not exsit. I thought this command would create the parent dev as well as the cdrom dev.

Hi Do you have the cdrom device already connected and powered on (if applied) to the server ?? If so, then you can run the following command: cfgmgr -v this should configure your cdrom device. Hope this helps

If aix doesn't see it, it usually means it's not well connected or that it's not supported. Try to see it in the boot sms menu as a boot device, then you know the system sees it, other wise check your cabling. Otherwise you need to check if your cdrom is supported by aix. regards, Jorke |

Ok I got this issue fixed.. The step I was missing was to use DLPAR to create the connecction to my LPAR.Once I created a connection resource w/DLPAR then I ran cfgmgr and all was good.
